The Occupational Safety and Health Reporter, published by the Bureau of National Affairs, Washington D.C., quoted Prevent, Inc.'s President Betty Z. Bogue in its August 23, 2001 edition. Responding to the shortage of CNA's, risk of injury and low wages, the publication states:

" 'Often these low wages mean that an aide will earn just as much in a fast-food job with less chance of suffering a back injury,' said Betty Bogue, founder and president of Prevent, Inc., an ergonomics training company in Hickory, NC."

Cited under the section entitled Two Approaches to Safer Nursing, the Occupational Safety and Health Reporter adds:

"An ergonomics training system which includes the use of mechanical lifts and slings to move patients has been put into more than 200 long term care facilities in 45 states.

"In facilities where the combination of mechanical lifts and worker training has been in place for four years, 'we have reduced lift-transfer injuries by 90%' Betty Bogue, President of Prevent, Inc., based in Hickory, NC said. 'To make the program work, the equipment must be maintained, support for its use provided from the top down, and training has to be ongoing due to the high turnover rate at nursing facilities,' she said."
